Free and local use
Lists, items, history, recipes and weekly plans are stored on the device when the app is used on its own. This content is not sent to the Smarter Grocery List server. The widget, Siri actions and share extension use only local iOS features and the app's private shared storage area on the device.
Data processed when you use Plus
When you create or join a household, the sync service processes the data needed to provide the feature:
- a random device ID, secure authentication key and, if enabled, a push token;
- the names you choose for yourself and the household;
- shared lists, items, store order, recipes and weekly plans;
- Ask Home questions, choices and temporary images;
- subscription status and technical transaction information required to verify access.
We do not receive payment-card details. Apple handles payment.
Ask Home images and notifications
Images are compressed before they sync. When a question is answered, cancelled or expires, the image content is removed from active and historical sync changes. An unanswered question normally expires after 24 hours. Push notifications are optional and generic; item names and images are not shown on the Lock Screen.
Recipe import
When you ask the app to fetch a recipe from a web address, your device contacts that website. The website may receive ordinary technical information such as your IP address under its own privacy policy.
Purpose and legal basis
Data is used to provide the features you request, keep the household in sync, verify subscription access, send optional notifications, secure the service and answer support requests. Processing is necessary to perform the Plus service contract. Notifications are enabled only after your choice and iOS permission. Essential security logs may be processed based on our legitimate interest in preventing misuse and errors.
Sharing and tracking
Smarter Grocery List does not sell personal data, show ads or use data for third-party marketing or cross-app tracking. Data is shared only with household members you connect, with Apple for purchases and push delivery, and with technical providers needed to operate the service.
Retention and deletion
Sync data is retained while the device account or household is active. You can delete it directly under Settings → Sync Data & Account. The owner deletes the entire household; invited members delete their own account, membership and data sent from their device. Local lists remain until you delete them or remove the app.
Deleting an account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it separately through Apple if needed.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or data portability where applicable. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact us by email. You may lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
Children and changes
Smarter Grocery List is not designed to collect data from children independently. This policy may be updated when features or requirements change. The date above shows the latest material update.
